No more lockout and Ochocinco's a Patriot!

Hungry Hungry HipposMy husband is walking around with a giant grin on his face these days. If you've watched any TV in the last week or so, you know that an NFL frenzy is going on. I call it a feeding frenzy. It is all football, all the time. Since the players have been involved in a lockout for the past four months nothing has happened. No "free agents" have been allowed to sign and therefore the teams are pretty incomplete. And football season starts in a few weeks! Now that the lockout is over, however, it's a different story. It's as if all of the free players have been thrown into a pool and each team is swimming like mad trying to get who they want. Maybe it's a little more like that great game Hungry Hungry Hippos.

In any case, it is definitely a frenzy. That big 'ol monster, Fantasy Football, is rearing its ugly head and starting to consume our lives again. Case in point--I'd like to show you a picture of our calendar. It hangs in our kitchen and I thought I was the only one who looks at it. The other day, I flipped the page over to check something and found this:

If you look carefully at August 20th, you'll see this:

Ummmmm, ok babe. Apparently this is what he finds calendar worthy. He also does this because it is pretty much an ALL DAY EVENT and he needs me to find something else to do that day. If you want a little insight into what goes down in a live Fantasy Football draft, click here. I'll also have you know that this is 1 out of 3 of his fantasy leagues. Thank God that the other two are drafted online (but they still take up a large chunk of the night). Anyway, I digress. The good news is that the lockout is over, everyone can start picking their Barbies.....er, players....and there is so much to talk about that nothing is getting old and repetitive. Yet.
New buddies
One of the major stories is that Chad "Ochocinco" (even though he legally changed his last name from Johnson to match his jersey number, I still put it in quotes because its just so bizarre.) has been signed to the New England Patriots with our Golden-est of Golden Boy's, QB Tom Brady. Hopefully now that he's on a great team, he can write fewer Twitter posts, stop trying to be the center of attention and get down to playing great football. Oh who am I kidding...he's not gonna change into a different person overnight! I wonder what his fiance, Evelyn Lozada of 'Basketball Wives' fame on VH1 thinks of all this? Maybe she'll have to go join the cast of 'Football Wives' now?

The best part about this whole story is that someone on the Patriots ALREADY HAS THE NUMBER 85!!! Bwaaaaaaaahahaha! The guy's name is Aaron Hernandez, but before you get all excited about another possible name change like I did, know that Ocho is offering to buy Hernandez's number. Apparently people do this. When Clinton Portis went from the Broncos to the Redskins he paid someone $26K for the number 26. Bummer. I was hoping for Chad Cinquenta y Dos!

I mean, if you're not entertained by these ridiculous soap opera antics, I can't help you, people!

Until next time....

Raiders newest cheerleader--a grandma!!

Yep, you heard that right. Although it might not be exactly what you think. Susie Sanchez, 37, is a mother of three and grandmother of one. You do the math here...this family starts 'em young! Is she the oldest cheerleader in the NFL? Nope. (That title goes to Bengals Cheerleader Laura Vikmanis who's 42. She seems like a great gal...watch a little video of her here.) Nor is she the first grandma that the Raiders have hired! (That was Kathy Ferrin who was a Raiderette in '03-'04) Who knew??

In any case, congrats Susie! Anyone who is willing to dance around in a bikini in front of thousands of fans after 3 kids and a grandchild is pretty impressive if you ask me!

Tour the new Chick 101!

Every gal needs a new outfit. And this site needed a serious makeover! I'd love to take you on a little Chick 101 Tour so that you'll be completely up to speed come football season. So without further ado, let's dive in! (IF YOU ARE GETTING THIS OVER EMAIL, PLEASE CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE SITE.)

I've been wanting to create the new header forever and finally got around to it. It's my version of what this blog is all about--listening to the male perspective on this crazy game and taking "notes" but then translating those notes into things that girls (or just non-sports nuts) can understand.

Underneath the header are tabs. Pretty self-explanatory...About Me, Basic Rules, etc. Refer back to these pages when you need some brushing up on the basic basics.

Ok, the left hand column is new! You can follow me on Twitter, subscribe by email and check out some classic blog posts in the Chick 101 Vocabulary Terms section. This is where I break down the positions on the field in total chickspeak. What's a running back, you ask? Why, they are kinda like Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard! How, you ask? Well click and find out! We are missing a few defensive positions and I'm gonna cover those this season so get ready. To this day, whenever anyone talks about running backs I immediately think of The Bodyguard and remember what the hell running backs do.

Under the vocab terms is an ad for my new kids clothing line, Lazy Jane. Check it out and buy many many kids clothes. (That's a subliminal message.)

The middle column is mostly the same, I've tidied up the fonts and colors of the posts and you can still see other posts "you might like" underneath each entry. There is also a little button called "Share This" under each post that makes it possible to share that post over email, Facebook, StumbleUpon, Twitter and a bunch of other cool sites.

The right hand column has a nifty little thing where if you are so inclined, you can donate to Chick 101. As of right now, I don't make any money off of this site, I do it simply because I love it and I know you all need your Chick 101 translation of the games every week! Anyway, it's up to you. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

The "What's Hot This Week" section still keeps you up to date on the latest league goings on. Here you'll find gossip, headlines of the week and stuff that is either extra informative or too complicated for me to write about myself.

Underneath that section is the Popular Posts section where you can find, well, popular posts. As you can see, I should probably start a second blog about my famous cousin who sings on Glee as a Warbler. He is very popular on this blog.

Underneath the Popular Posts, you can subscribe to an RSS feed and underneath that you can check out the recent comments people have posted. Moving further down, I list some other great "chick" sports sites that I love. Mostly I love my girl Jen over at Sports Stole My Man. She too is involved with a sports nut and writes about her life that usually has to revolve around sports.

Then there is the blog archive. At the very bottom of the screen is one of my favorite things--the "Who's reading Chick 101?" map. It represents everyone who's read Chick 101 from all around the world! Pretty cool, right? If you happen to see one of the hearts flashing, it means that someone is reading it right when you are.

And that just about sums it up! Please let me know what you think of the new site. I love any and all feedback and if you have any suggestions on how I can improve things, please let me know!

Until next time...

No more NFL lockout!

The season will start as scheduled, folks. I'm gonna give you a recap in my next post, but until then, peruse a classic Chick 101 post about Fantasy Football HERE. Your man will by completely consumed by it in a manner of weeks.

As for the lockout, read about it here.

Football's Almost Here!

Aren't you excited? I KNOW I AM! (Do you sense the sarcasm?) Yes, that's right ladies (and gents), football season is about a month away and pretty soon Chick 101 will have a fresh, new look! And, of course, lots of trash-talking, hot-guy following, girl-based-sports-observation types of awesomeness!

This season will be a special one for me as well seeing that this year at kickoff time I'll be 8 months pregnant with my second daughter. A football baby pour moi!!

So, while I tinker away over here, enjoy your last month of summer and get ready for some Football! See you in August!

Until next time...
Molly
