My cousin, the Warbler

Cord and Molly
So as we are in LA watching the Oscars, I just thought I'd put up a pic of me and my fabulous cousin, Cord Jackman, who's over here watching it with us.

As some of you know, he's a regular on Glee in the group called, "The Warblers." Seeing as half of the people who come to my blog come because of a picture I put up of the Warblers (see below), I figure I'd give the people what they want.

And by the way, I chopped about 7 inches off my hair....you like?

Stay tuned for Oprah news!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

In honor of Valentine's Day, I'd love for you guys to read a post by my fellow blogger over at Sports Stole My Man. Enjoy here.

Frosty beer beverage
In other news, I'm getting some nice ideas as to what sort of "man topic" to cover next. I've gotten suggestions for baseball, poker, beer, "doing gross things with their bodies" (a personal favorite), but I must say, I'm most intrigued by beer. Anyone up for learning all there is to know about Man's Favorite Beverage? I'm on it.

Until next time!

Post-Superbowl and what's next?

Well, congratulations Packers! It was a pretty good game although I must say that there has never been an uglier colored game. You will not see me wearing those particular shades of yellow and green any time soon. And did you notice the absence of cheerleaders?? This was the only Super Bowl in the game's 45-year history without them. Apparently, not all NFL teams employ a squad...did you know that? Me neither. In fact, a total of six teams do not have cheerleaders--

Green Bay Packers
Pittsburgh Steelers
Chicago Bears
Cleveland Browns
New York Giants
Detroit Lions

I wonder if it's because these towns are all located in the freezing cold for most of football season? Maybe...but I did a little research and found another answer:

"The Packers did away with their cheerleaders in 1988 after market research indicated fans did not really care, and in 1970 it was an "organizational decision" to dissolve the Steelerettes."
So there you have it.

In other blog news, usually at this time of year I sign off until August. This time I'd love to keep it going. It will chronicle my experiences of continuing to try and learn about "all things male" and my journey to get Chick 101 into it's next phase, whatever that may be.

Stay tuned!

Until next time,
Molly

Superbowl XLV!

So the big day is finally here! It's been hard to concentrate on today's game because while most of the country is buried under a few feet of snow, we've been enjoying unseasonably warm temperatures. Today is supposed to be 73 degrees--at 9am it's already 67!

This morning I'm making chocolate cupcakes, Pigs in a Blanket and a fabulous spinach salad to bring to the Superbowl party we're going to today. For the cupcakes, I'm using an organic mix from Whole Foods--I'll let you know if it's edible or not ;)

Pigs in a Blanket are my ridiculously bad for you signature Superbowl contribution. People have been known to mock me when they see them and then two minutes later, 3 piggies stuffed in their mouth, they say, "These are SO good!" They disappear within 3-7 minutes of placing them on the table.

Recipe follows:

PIGS IN A BLANKET

1. Go to the store (NOT Whole Foods as they don't carry food this bad for you) and pick up some "'Lil Smokies" which are basically tiny, tiny hot dogs all smushed together in a vacuum sealed lump. I believe Hillshire Farms "Beef" (as apposed to "Sausage") is what we get.

2.Then go grab a couple of those Pillsbury Crescent Roll dough in a can thingys. DO NOT read the ingredients. I repeat, DO NOT read the ingredients. Trust me.

3. Unwrap the 'lil smokies package and pop open the can o' dough. Turn the oven on to 350 degrees. Unroll the dough. Get a cookie sheet and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Cut the triangles in the dough in half (so now you have two skinny triangles instead of one fat one)

4. Place one 'lil smokey at the larger end of the triangle. Roll the smokey in the dough all the way until you get to the point of the triangle. It should look like a crescent roll with a tiny hot dog in the middle. Put on cookie sheet a couple of inches apart.

5. Brush a whisked egg over the top of the Pigs in a Blanket and put in oven for about 20 minutes. Check them and bake for 5-10 more minutes until the tops are golden brown and the pastry is puffy and delicious looking.

My spinach salad was discovered one night at home and I make it all the time! It is REALLY good for you and tastes great. Use it to balance out all of the dips and heavy food at the party.

SPINACH SALAD

Ingredients:
1 bag baby spinach leaves
1 apple finely chopped
1 cup blueberries
Seeds from 1/2 a pomegranate
1/4 cup Finely grated or chopped "Parrano" Gouda cheese
1/2 cup toasted, roughly chopped walnuts
3 pieces Procuitto (preferably Applewood Farms) chopped up and sauteed in a bit of olive oil in saute pan until crispy (like bacon bits)

Dressing:
2 parts olive oil
1 part balsamic vinegar
1/2 part dijon mustard

Mix all ingredients together in large bowl, whisk dressing in small bowl. Pour over salad and toss well.

Hope everyone has a great Superbowl Sunday!
