Monday morning recap-Week 3

Heyward-Bey's teammates praying
Good morning, everyone. How was your weekend? Mine was long. My 1-year old is the absolute best...until night falls. Then these four massive teeth that are trying to come in take over and make her a screaming lunatic about every 40 minutes. All. Night. Long. O.M.G. And of course she's also growing so she'll wake up again at 5am starving. And screaming, of course. What kills me is that my 4-year old sleeps through the entire thing! I swear a bomb could go off and she'd sleep through it. Anybody else dealing with this? I feel your pain!

Anyway, I digress. We did have football on all day here yesterday and I managed to get the gist of what happened on the field, so let's review:

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the New Orleans Saints, making the Saints record 0-3. Chiefs player Jamaal Charles is doing amazingly well. The Saints, however, have been plagued by a
"bounty" scandal (now nicknamed "Bountygate") in which several defensive players and coaches were alleged to have operated a fund that paid out non-contract bonuses (bounties) for specifically trying to injure players on the opposing team. Nice, right? In any case, all of the turmoil definitely isn't helping as they have yet to win a game this season.

The NY Jets beat the Miami Dolphins 23-20 in overtime (OT). The Dolphins kicker missed what would have been the game winning field goal. Bet he had a rough night. Jets cornerback, Darrelle Revis, tore his ACL muscle and is now out for the season.

The Tennessee Titans beat the Detroit Lions 44-41 in OT. According to the Associated Press, the Titans became the first NFL team to score five touchdowns of 60 yds or longer in a single game.

RGIII and his Washington Redskins lost this week to the Cincinnati Bengals 38-31.

The San Francisco 49ers ended their winning streak and lost to the Minnesota Vikings 24-13.

In the afternoon games, the Oakland Raiders beat the Pittsburgh Steelers with a last second field goal making the score 34-31, but the most memorable play in that game was the crushing injury of Darrius Heyward-Bey. I actually saw this one live and it was brutal. He got pancaked between two cornerbacks and it looked to me like he was unconscious even before he hit the ground. After lying motionless on the field for about 10 minutes, they lifted him on to a stretcher and was taken to the nearest hospital. So far it seems he has a concussion and a possible neck injury. Stay tuned.

A huge surprise this season has been the undefeated Arizona Cardinals. They beat Michael Vick and his Philly Eagles 27-6.

Peyton Manning and his Broncos lost again this week to the Houston Texans. The Texans are also undefeated.

The Atlanta Falcons pummeled the SD Chargers 27-3 and are also undefeated as of week three.

Last night's game was great. The Baltimore Ravens beat the New England Patriots in the last few seconds with a very close field goal. The ball was up higher than the goal posts and I remember the commentator saying that "the goal posts go up to heaven" so that even though the ball was higher, it still went in between those lines. Funny observation. Another touching thing about this game was that Ravens receiver, Torrey Smith's brother, Tevin Jones, had died earlier that day in a tragic motorcycle accident. Smith ended up not only playing in the game, but he caught six passes for 127 yards and two of them were touchdowns. He said that his brother would have wanted him to play and was touched by all of the support from fans, his teammates and even his opposing teammates. The Ravens observed a moment of silence for Tevin at the game.

And there you have it! Tonight's game is the Green Bay Packers against the Seattle Seahawks at 8:30pm ET on ESPN.
